Public Transportation

Bus Transportation
Buss service through the borough is operated by Port Authority Transit (PAT). For information on bus schedules and fares go to the Port Authority of Allegheny County website. Many buses access downtown Pittsburgh via the Martin Luther King Busway, an exclusive bus only road. Others use the Parkway East (I-376) or local highways. Once in town, light rail service is available for free at 4 Downtown and 2 North Shore subway stops. They are First Avenue,  Steel Plaza, Wood Street, Gateway, North Side (PNC Park), and Allegheny (Heinz Field & Rivers Casino).  Look for the “T” sign for the location of subway stops or check with the Port Authority for information and fares. The “T” takes people to Station Square and the South Hills of Pittsburgh with the terminus at South Hills Village Shopping Center. At either end of Station Square, riders can find the Monongahela (or “Mon”) Incline or the Duquesne Incline to access the restaurants, shops and scenic views on Mt. Washington. The Mon Incline is operated by the Port Authority and located near the Station Square “T” stop. The Duquesne Incline is operated by the Society for the Preservation of The Duquesne Heights Incline. Access to the Duquesne Incline is best by bus or car along West Carson Street.

The Flivver is a 13-passenger bus that serves Forest Hills proper and is available for use by Senior Citizens and those with special needs to take them to the store, beauty salon, doctor’s appointments and other Forest Hills locations. It runs Monday through Friday, 9:30 AM – 3:30 PM, and on Sunday mornings for Church services. During operating hours, riders may call the Flivver driver at 412-519-3955 to schedule a pick up. It is sponsored by Forest Hills Community Service, a non profit organization, which may be contacted via the borough office at 412-351-7330. The Flivver is staffed by volunteers (drivers must be 25 years of age or older with a current driver’s license) and new drivers are always needed. The Flivver service relies on contributions to offset costs (send contributions in care of Forest Hills Community Service, 2067 Ardmore Boulevard,  Pittsburgh, PA 15221).

Taxi Service
The Pittsburgh area is served by several cab companies, with Yellow Cab (412-321-8100) and Peoples Cab (412-441-3200) the two largest. Others can be found in the Pittsburgh area as well.  Call for service is available 24/7 and is the preferred way to hail a cab. If in Pittsburgh or at the airport, you may also find an available cab at a taxi stand.
